These days, it seems a rarity that anyone takes pride in what they do. Everyone always wants more money, more benefits, more accolades, etc. That is why when someone comes along who does something of his own time and accord, and does an impeccable job, you are thankful for him. This is what we have in my home county’s genealogy website administrator (
http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~kycarter/
). Likely in the quiet, wee hours of the night, he uploaded the 1940 US Census images for the districts in my home county. This has saved many researchers a lot of time (and likely many headaches). I had the opportunity to meet the gentleman last year, and he is as gracious as his name implies (you will understand if you take a look at the website). Aside from this phenomenal task that he has taken on for all of us, he always keeps the site up-to-date. Anyone who visits the page agrees that it is a standout site that goes above and beyond in its information gathering and display capacities. To this particular gentleman, you have my gratitude and, undoubtedly, that of many others. To all those who use of their time and energy to fill similar roles for other groups, thank you as well.
i agree one hundred percent. if it wasn’ for mr. grace and all of the others who a part of this wonderful carter county site, i would be so far behind in my search. it amazes me how they do it. i visit other sites and they have not been touched for weeks, months and even years. it truly takes a dedicated group of people, or a dedicated individual, to make something like the carter county site succeed as well as it does. i love how everyone gets involved by giving pictures and information, helping with searches, sharing their knowledge, and helping you break thru those brick walls surrounding your lost ancestors. i check in two or three times a day to see what new and exciting things they have posted. just today i found my great grandfather’s obit. in a 1920 carter co. newspaper. it was wonderful. mr. grace also has my thanks and gratitude.
Thank you Lora for recognizing the wonderful work that John Grace has done for the Carter County Website. I know there are regulars that contribute and this should encourage others to do the same. Together it has been helpful for most researchers. Thank you John!
John does a great job of keeping the Carter County website up to date!!! I love to go on at least once a week, to catch up and see what he has posted. A lot of my family is covered on this genealogy website, and I can’t thank him enough for the time and effort he puts into it every day!!!
